On Monday, the first day of spring, we began a series of activities to celebrate the new season. Some activities have been completed already and others are still in progress. We have heard a rainbow story about Mrs. Andrews' weekend encounter with the leprechaun from Friday, which ended in a rainbow explosion. This lead to color strips being spread all over the classroom floor. Students had to choose a color and then went outside to find an object that matched their color. We went on to use this color and objects in our weekly writing process. On Monday, we found the color and object and did "think and talk" with a partner. On Tuesday, we drew the object. On Wednesday we wrote sentences about our color and object. On Thursday we will check our work and edit the sentences. On Friday we will publish and share our work from this week. We have also learned some spring yoga poses and listened to soothing music after Mrs. Andrews discovered "Garden Yoga for Kids." We even completed a spring morning work sentence on Monday and had a Spring Song sing along using Spring YouTube videos for kids. Spring is definitely exciting!
For the past two weeks, we have been working on our animal research projects. Each Kindergarten class has been divided into 3 animal groups. Our class is studying about cardinals, beavers, and frogs. Each day, we complete a different information organizer about our animal, including: tree map of body parts, habitat, plate of what they eat, fabulous facts, and a KWL chart. On Thursday March 23, students will turn in their home portion of the project, in which they had to create models of their animal from items around the house. On Friday March 24 we will do a gallery walk to see all of the projects in all Kindergarten classrooms! More pictures are coming soon...
Students worked on reflections and recorded goals that they have met on "I Can" Shamrocks. We chose to display these on our class bulletin board. Here is a sneak peak of our work!
This week, we worked on costumes to wear and celebrated "Read Across America." We have read many Dr. Seuss books. We had a guest reader from North Edgecombe come to read a Dr. Seuss story to us. Mrs. Andrews had some Dr. Seuss flashcards that we have used to practice number and letter recognition, as well as addition and counting sets. We have also watched some Dr. Seuss videos online! This is a great way to practice rhyming words.
